Clear Spring Studio Presents
An Iyengar Immersion Weekend
Taking flight: Practice and Detachment as
the Two Wings of Yoga
January 31 and February 1, 2014
Devon Dederich and Anne Schultz lead the first of a series of weekend immersion workshops for students and teachers interested in deepening their practice and understanding of Yoga, using the tools of the Iyengar method, and insight from ancient and modern philosophers. We will delve more deeply than in ordinary classes into the philosophy, anatomy, logic and articulation of yogic ideas in our minds, in practice, and in life.
Friday 3:30-4:30pm Regular Teachers’ Practice ($10; Devon leads)
4:30-6:30pm Advanced Practice ($20; Anne leads)
7:30-9:00pm Philosophy Talk and Discussion: The Two Wings of Yoga Practice ($30; Anne leads at Devon’s house. Soup provided, plus BYO easy light dinner food)
Saturday 10:00-12:30pm The Two Wings of Yoga Asana ($30; Devon teaches)
2:30-5:00pm, The Two Wings of Restorative Practice ($30; Devon teaches)
5:00-5:15pm Questions and Comments.
Suggested readings to prepare for the weekend
Patañjali Yoga Sutra, Chapter (Pada) 1, sutras I.2-I.16. We find Edwin Bryant’s translation and commentary very useful, but encourage you to explore any and all established translations, the more the merrier.
BKS Iyengar, The Tree of Yoga, “Effort, Awareness, and Joy,” pp. 41-45.
$120 for full attendance the whole weekend. OR, $90 for Friday evening Philosophy Soup Kitchen and both sessions Saturday plus some transportable dinner-type food you'd like to bring for Saturday evening. We encourage sharing.
Please consider carpooling to and from these events. Plan ahead and save gas.
Clear Spring accepts checks or cash in payment (and credit cards too, but at the studio only).
Let us know you are coming and we will be sure to make enough soup for you.
